ViewNet is about mapping the environment; it enables users to create and visualise virtual content in its spatial context, using augmented reality and advanced visual tracking and mapping technology. It is a distributed system, allowing teams of users to share and exchange virtual content, facilitating efficient dissemination of information via global virtual maps.
ViewNet is a two year research project co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Industry. It is a collaborative project led by 3C Research and comprising the University of Bristol, Toshiba Research Europe, Sepura, Ordnance Survey, ST Microelectronics, Thales Research and Technology, National Physical Laboratory, TRW Conekt, Comsine and the Home Office Scientific Development Branch.
